Driver's License and Identification Cards

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Driver and Vehicle Services (DVS) will soon begin to issue redesigned drivers' licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.

Production of the new cards will begin in Mid-December, 2004.  Since DVS operates on a four-year renewal cycle, old and new versions of the card will be in circulation for the next several years.

Many of the card's new features help to deter identity theft and fraud.  Some of the new features are:

bulletFine lines printed over the digital image of the cardholder, making it easier to detect tampering
bulletLarger print for easy reading
bulletVirtual images of loons that appear to float above or sink below the surface on the fact of the card
bulletRed Border around digital image for card holders under 21 years of age.
