FDA CONSIDERING BANNING MENTHOL FLAVORED TOBACCO ACROSS THE U.S.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced proposed product standards to federally prohibit menthol as a characterizing flavor in cigarettes and prohibits all characterizing flavors (other than tobacco) in cigars. These prohibitions are a critical piece of the Biden Administration’s health initiative plan. See FDA’s announcement HERE.

Before the ban takes effect, the FDA is allowing the public to weigh in. The FDA has begun accepting public comments. Our member’s voices and input are a critical component at this step of the process. See HERE for step-by-step instruction on how to submit written comments. The comment period ends July 5, 2022.

Also, on June 13 and June 15, 2022, the FDA will hold virtual listening sessions. If you choose to speak, you will be offered a maximum of five minutes. See the links here to register 6/13 Session Link and 6/15 Session Link . The registration process is very easy. The FDA will send you a notice of what time slot you will be given to make your comments.

If the menthol flavored tobacco sales are important to your business, join the fight and urge the FDA not to ban menthol cigarettes.
